What is the difference between 409 and 410 stainless steel?
The corrosion resistance of 409 stainless is about the same as Type 410 stainless steel. Type 409 offers improved corrosion resistance in comparison to carbon steels. However, its corrosion resistance is lower in comparison to other stainless steels with higher chromium content.
What is 409 grade stainless steel?
Alloy 409 is a general purpose, chromium, titanium stabilized, ferritic stainless steel whose primary application is automotive exhaust systems. It contains 11% chromium which is the minimum amount for the formation of the passive surface film which gives stainless steels their corrosion resistance.
Does 409 stainless steel rust?
409 stainless steel is still more rust-resistant than Mild Steel However, neither type of metal is 100% rust-proof. 409 stainless steel can contain up to 90% iron, meaning a magnet will stick to it and is prone to rust.
