What is the difference between steel sheet and steel plate?
The difference between a metal sheet and metal plate can be defined by thickness.
If the thickness of the metal is ¼” (6mm) or more, then it is considered a plate.
Plate thickness is typically measured in inches.
If the thickness is less than ¼” (6mm), it is considered sheet.
What is the minimum sheet metal thickness?
The thickness of sheet metal starts from 0.5 mm and goes up to 6 mm.
Anything above that is a metal plate.
The thin sheet metal is easy to form, while still providing great strength.
How do I know if I have 304 or 316?
Aesthetically, there is no difference between the two; in fact, the only way to differentiate between them is to test them chemically.
The main difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel is 316 SS has the addition of molybdenum.
