What is SS 201 stainless steel?
Type 201 stainless steel is an alloy that contains half the nickel and more manganese and nitrogen than other popular steels. While it is less expensive than some other alloys (because of its low nickel content), it is not as easy to work or form.
What is 202 grade stainless steel?
Grade 202 is chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel with high toughness at low temperature.
In comparison, grade 202 has less nickel content unlike 304.
Hence it offers low corrosion resistance and lower toughness.
But it is a less expensive substitution for grade 304 in many applications.
How can I check my SS material?
Depending on the color we can distinguish:
- AISI 200: red stain;
- AISI 300 yellow color stain. To distinguish the molybdenum-containing alloys, a chemical reagent is then used on the yellow stain. If the color changes from yellow to pink, we are in the presence of a stainless steel containing molybdenum (AISI 316)
